WORKSHOPS Encaustic Painting Workshops
In association with Redlines Studio, Ben Hecht offers beginning and advanced encaustic painting workshops. Students of all ability levels are invited to learn about and explore the fascinating process of painting with heated wax. During the 6 hour workshop, students will learn about encaustic painting in history and its contemporary processes. Topics covered include: selecting appropriate grounds, encaustic medium preparation, mixing wax medium and pigments, fusing techniques, using collage and "inclusions", and a talk on resources for setting up and maintaining a home encaustic workshop. The five hours are intensive, but highly enjoyable. Students will leave the hands-on workshop with their own encaustic painting and a solid foundation with which to further explore this unique medium. Cost is $120, all materials included.

Encaustic Workshops are a wonderful way for artists and hobbyists to explore the intricacies of painting with beeswax. Offered a limited number of times each year, the 6 hour workshop covers all aspects of the encaustic process. Each participant creates and takes home an encaustic painting at the end of the hands-on experience.
The advanced techniques encaustic workshop is designed for students who have taken the beginning workshop, or persons with prior encaustic experience. The advanced workshop covers collage, inclusions, making encaustic paints from scratch, and alternate mixed media processes.
All workshops meet on one Saturday, 10AM-4PM, with a one-hour lunch break from 12PM-1PM.

Space is limited to 5 participants. Call early if you want to attend. The workshops fill up quickly.
Once students have attended the workshop, they are welcome to join the upcoming Encaustic Open Studio on Monday nights from 6PM-8:30PM.
